Conquering the Gender Gap in Music and Film
Ever wonder why there are fewer women in the music and film industries? Do
you want to break in to these fields but don't know where to start? Come to
this clinic to hear from professionals in each field discuss how you can be
a part of the movement to erase the gender gap!

Session 1: Electronic Music 101 (6PM)
Do you love MIA, Peaches and Le Tigre? Want to learn how to make your own electronic dance music? Seeing how they do it is the first step. You will be pleasantly surprised how much easier it is than you probably thought! Join DJ Shiva to find out how women are creating breakthrough music using simple technology. All participants will be encouraged to explore their musical side while learning how to create their very own music.
Session 2: Music Biz 101 (7PM)
Have you ever wanted to get into the music business but didn’t know where to start? Join music executive Allison Shaw as she shares her experience as a woman in the industry and provides her tricks of the trade, including how to book a tour, how to get publicity, licensing, riding the festival circuit, and more! Learn from an insider and start your career in the music industry.
Session 3: Film Skillz 101 (8PM)
Are you sick of watching film and television and not seeing ideas represented? Take this starter course and dive into creating your own world! Join Heather Jurewicz of Street-Level Youth Media to learn the basics of film and video production. Get hands on experience using professional equipment, hear tips from professional filmmakers and develop the skills you’ll need to express yourself in film!
Confronting Gender Based Violence Panel Discussion
Thursday, September 25 4:30 - 6 PM Roosevelt University Room 320
Are you outraged by violence against women and the queer community? Tired of biting your tongue about it? Then you should come to this workshop for a critical discussion of the gender-based violence and learn some ways you can help prevent it Join Roosevelt University faculty member Kate Webster, FAIRFund Executive Director Andrea Powell, and Isa Villaflor of Young Women’s Empowerment Project to discuss the prevalence and varied forms of gender-based violence and learn some innovative ways women, youth and queer communities are taking action.

This is shortend version of the 8-week class for young women to share
their fears, frustrations, hopes, and aspirations around the multitude of
life altering decisions they are facing. We will discuss decision-making
regarding career choices, intimate relationships, family relationships,
and self-esteem. Workshop lead by a professional counselor. Group will be located in CWHC's Outreach space at 950 W. Newport.

A lecture/Q n A on women's reproductive options, issues, politics. In this workshop, we will go over basic anatomy, physiology, and fertility awareness as it relates to understanding one's own body better in order to make informed decisions around birth control/safer sex options available. Further educational materials will be provided. Don't miss this one because you'll learn an incredible amount about your own body and how it works as well as have ample opportunity to get your questions answered in an all woman environment. Like a tupperware party but better!
